Semper Ad Meliora.
I have discovered that going to bed early and getting up early in the morning is a winning concept. It makes me feel happier, less tired and more productive. At least that’s my experience so far.

Books.
The next book I’m going to read (after finishing Carl Sagan’s Cosmos) is The Quantum Universe: Everything That Can Happen Happens by Brian Cox and Jeff Forshaw. Just have a look at the titles of the chapters in the book: 1. Something Strange is Afoot 2. Being In Two Places At Once 3. What Is a Particle? 4. Everything That Can Happen Does Happen 5. Movement Is an Illusion 6. The Music...

Diamonds In the Sky.
Went out to the garden to look at the stars. Despite the light pollution the night sky is incredibly beautiful. Stood there for at least 45 minutes just gazing at the countless of worlds up there. My neck hurts now. Totally worth it.

Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans.
Ate a Jelly Bean which tasted like bacon today. Rather bizarre. Anyway, it made me think of a part in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone: “‘A bag of Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans. You want to be carful with those’, Ron warned Harry. ‘When they say every flavour, they mean every flavour - you know, you’ll get all the ordinary ones like chocolate...

38 Hours and Counting.
I have now been awake for 38 hours straight. It’s weird what sleep deprivation can do to your brain. During the later part of the day I’ve been feeling rather slow and forgetful. My short-term memory isn’t working as well as usual. My body doesn’t feel tired at the moment though. Guess I’m too exhausted to feel it. Anyway, now I’m sitting here, with a drink in...

A Night In January.
The radiators in our flat are broken. Or at least we don’t get them to work. So as I’m writing this I’m sitting under my duvet in the sofa wearing three pairs of socks, trousers, three jumpers and a scarf. Wish I had a pair of mittens. Anyway, mum if you’re reading this; there’s no need to worry. I just wanted the world to know it’s cold in here.

AH.
I was looking up at Betelgeuse wondering when it might go supernova. Then I remembered it might’ve already happened. Mind = blown.

Liar's Paradox.
“In philosophy and logic, the Liar’s Paradox is the statement ‘this sentence is false.’  Trying to assign to this statement a classical binary truth value leads to a contradiction. If ‘this sentence is false’ is true, the then sentence is false, which would in turn mean that it is actually true, but this would mean that it is false, and so on ad infinitum....

The Article That Changed My Life.
In June I read an article, or whatever you want to call it, which Adam Young (Owl City) posted on his blog. I don’t think it’s written by Adam though. Anyway, the article’s called “10 Myths About Introverts”. Reading that article changed my life in a way. It helped me make sense of myself and it helped me understand why I am the way I am and why I do the things I do. ...

God vs Science.
It really annoys me that most people seem to think you have to believe in either God OR science. Why not combine them? That’s what I do.

Learning Dutch - Day 2.
“Ik heet Piet en ik woon in Amsterdam. Ik ben getrouwd met Pauline. Zij is Engels, maar ze spreekt Nederlands. Ik ben leraar op een middelbare school in Amsterdam maar Pauline werkt in Den Haag. Ze gaat elke dag met de trein naar haar werk. Zij is secretaresse bij een reisbureau. Wij hebben twee kinderen, een zoon en een dochter. Hij heet Marius en zij heet Charlotte.” Quite similar...
